Discovering Newfoundland: From Gros Morne to the Easternmost Point of Canada

Our journey through Newfoundland was nothing short of magical, filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and unforgettable experiences. Here’s a glimpse of the highlights from our adventure:

Gros Morne National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Gros Morne National Park is known for its dramatic fjords, towering cliffs, and ancient mountains. Hiking through the park felt like stepping into another world, with the Tablelands providing a rare glimpse at the Earth’s mantle. The stunning Western Brook Pond boat tour took us through pristine waters, surrounded by some of the most jaw-dropping scenery.

Hwy 430: The Viking Trail

Driving along Hwy 430, also known as the Viking Trail, offered endless coastal views and access to historic sites like L'Anse aux Meadows, the only confirmed Viking settlement in North America. This route truly showcased Newfoundland’s rugged charm, with glimpses of small fishing villages and dramatic seascapes that made for incredible photo opportunities.

Rocky Harbour

Rocky Harbour, nestled in the heart of Gros Morne, served as the perfect base for exploring the region. This charming town gave me a taste of authentic Newfoundland hospitality, with local seafood restaurants, cozy accommodations, and sunsets that painted the sky in hues of pink and orange.

Easternmost Point of Canada

Reaching the easternmost point of Canada at Cape Spear, just outside of St. John's, was a surreal moment. Standing on the edge of the continent, looking out into the Atlantic, I felt connected to the natural beauty and history of this iconic landmark. The rugged cliffs and the historic lighthouse provided some of the most striking views of the trip.

Whale Watching in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

No trip to Newfoundland would be complete without a whale-watching tour. Sailing through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, I was fortunate to spot majestic humpback whales breaching the surface, alongside playful dolphins. The adventure didn’t stop there – we also came across an iceberg and a hidden cave, which our captain skillfully guided the boat closer to explore. It was a surreal experience to witness the natural beauty of Newfoundland both above and below the water’s surface.

This trip was filled with moments that will stay with me forever. Check out the full gallery and explore Newfoundland from my perspective!
